Once there lived two cats in a house. One day the cats stole
a piece of cake. They had a quarrel over the sharing of the piece of cake. Each
of them wanted the larger part. They went to a monkey. They wanted the monkey
to divide the piece of cake. The monkey assured equal dividing. He broke the
cake into two pieces. He told the cats that one piece seemed larger than the
other. So, he bit the larger portion. Then he again broke the cake into two
pieces. The same thing repeated. The monkey bit the larger piece once again. It
continued until the cats told the monkey to stop it. The cats wanted the rest
of the cake. But the monkey told them that he would take it as his fee. Thus,
he ate up the entire cake. The cats realized their fault. They left the place
with a heavy heart.
Or,
The Cats
and the Monkey
One day two cats stole a piece of cake from the kitchen of a
householder. They had a dispute over their shares. As a result, they did not
come to a decision on how they would divide the cake among themselves. They
exchanged a lot of hot words. But all went in vain. Then they were about to
fight with each other. At that time a monkey appeared there. He heard the whole
thing and told the cats to give the cake to him. He gave them assurance that he
would divide it equally among them. The foolish cats could know nothing about
his trick. So, they agreed with the monkey and gave the cake to him. The monkey
broke the cake into two pieces. But one piece grew a bit larger than the other.
At once he bit off a portion from the large piece and it now became a bit
smaller than the other piece. He again bit off a portion from the second piece
in order to make the two pieces equal. But the second piece grew smaller again.
Thus, the monkey tactfully ate the whole cake. The cats could understand their
foolishness and be very sorry for losing their cake.
